Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis Treatment
Plantar fasciitis presents as pain and stiffness in the bottom of the heel or in the arch, commonly first thing in the morning and after periods of inactivity. This pain and accompanying inflammation is usually of a gradual onset and therefore many people put up with it for months hoping it would go away before looking to see a podiatrist.
Plantar fasciitis is usually as a result of a biomechanical problem, such as flat feet or anything else wrong with the way you walk or run. A ligament-type structure in the bottom of your foot, that attaches to the bottom of your heel (the plantar fascia) is then exposed to too much stress and this leads to stiffness and pain. You may also experience weakening and inflammation of the small muscles of the foot.
A diagnosis of plantar fasciitis can be made by the Podiatrists at Balcatta Podiatry. A variety of treatment options are available ranging from exercises or stretches, dry needling and orthotics that correct any biomechanical problems that may be present.
